Welcome to COST297 -COST297 - ‘HAPCOS’ is a European Action dealing with HAPs and their applications. Representing an active group of researchers from academia, industry and governments, it has aimed to catalyse research activity, and helps provide cohesion among the community. We have members from 20 European countries, and active participation from across the world.The Action commenced in 2005. At this time, it was clear that HAPs were an emerging topic of considerable potential, but there was little cohesion among disparate research and development activities; there was also much confusion surrounding the regulatory aspects. Since then we have been very successful in bringing people together, and helping to provide some consensus and engender a positive approach. We have held a number of meetings, with our activities structured within three Working Groups (see below). COST297 also supported other activities such as Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) for the exchange of (mainly young) researchers. All those interested in HAPs and their applications are welcome to contact the Chair [tct@ohm.york.ac.uk] directly. COST297 formally completed its 4-year tenure in late 2009. We are now continuing our work to prepare our Final Output. This will be a book about HAPs and their applications, and will be based upon our findings and research over the past 4 years. Autumn 2009 MeetingOur final meeting took place in Avignon, France, 19 -21 October, and included public Workshop sessions in collaboration with the STRATOFLIGHT Convention. This included engagement with a number of industrial partners, and represents a positive step towards taking the ideas and technology forward for further development beyond the end of the COST Action. A number of presentations were given by HAPCOS members, with extensive discussion sessions.We are extremely grateful to all involved with this activity, and in particular to Andre Soulage for his positive vision and support. Use of the websiteWe hope these web pages will be a valuable resource for everyone concerned with HAPs and their applications. We welcome input for the web pages, comments and feedback.We aim to make available published articles and material relating to HAPs and their applications. These can be found by clicking on the ‘publications’ link at the top of the page. For members of the COST297 Management Ctte and recognised associates, we also use the private members area, and MC members are invited to log in and read remarks from the chair and other information. It can be reached via the link at the top right hand side of this page. This will provide communication, information and document handling.
